I’ve spent my entire life studying fitness and nutrition. Ever since I was a teenager, I wanted to know everything there was to know about losing weight and getting leaner – I’ve been absolutely consumed by it! It’s not surprising because I’ve been fat all my life and my weight fluctuated from 90kg to 120kg.

So I started studying – and hard! I was voracious. I bought and read every book on weight training, aerobics, fitness, exercise physiology, dieting, fat loss and nutrition that I could get my hands on. I would spend hours on the internet studying about how the body works and study- I did! I studied every word .

Then, I Turned Myself Into a Guinea Pig!

Book knowledge is one thing, but it’s not the same as knowledge from experience. I don’t believe in armchair theoreticians!

You see, there are many personal trainers out there or so called weight loss ‘gurus’ who’ve never been in my shoes. Never knew the feeling of being obese and even though they give good advice (well some of ‘em), they don’t truly know what it’s like to be overweight and depressed .

Personal experience is the only true teacher, and believe me…

The first thing I discovered was that almost everyone is getting ripped off by weight loss marketing hype .

I learned that most advertisements are nothing more than “catalogs” and there are companies out there that will tell you anything to make quick money.

The second thing I discovered is that almost everyone is dead wrong in the way they diet to lose body fat. In fact, chances are the way you’re dieting to lose weight might be severely damaging your metabolism.

Who Is Diana Sabrain And Why Should You Even Consider Listening To Her?

Here, I will share with you my sweet-bitter journey as a young female entrepreneur and my inspiration to make a difference in my own life and lives of others.

What Motivated Me To Take Charge Of My Life At 17 Years Old?

My family fell into financial difficulty when I was 13 Years Old. I’ve worked eversince as a handphone dealer, cafe waitress and took orders at fast food restaurant hoping to lighten the load off my parents whom have to support my three other younger siblings. I wanted to get my family out of the one room flat we’ve been living in. Simply I wanted a better life for my loved ones.

When I entered polytechnic or the equivalent of tertiary education, I realised that I can challenge myself further and have the capacity to run successful businesses. My diploma was in business application and I scored As in subjects of economics, human resource management, system and analysis and other business modules. Hence at 17 years old, I started my entrepreneurship.

I Have A Dream…

And It Started With Physique Makeover

Well, from 13 years old up to 17 years old I was having weight issues and had extremely low self-esteem.

My family went into a major financial crisis when I was 13 years old during the oil crisis (my father trades in oil and natural resources) and we lost everything. It was quite rough adapting to change and I could still remember eating junk food EVERYDAY for a few months. I just piled on the fat and looked like an ELEPHANT!

I decided to change for good when I saw the worried look on my mother’s face when she saw me crying in front of the mirror calling myself names like “I am Fat and Ugly.”

I suffered from bulimia and binge eating disorder then. I was so self-destructive yet no one noticed all those years till my mother “caught” me red handed. I was always putting a cheerful facade in front of everyone. I just did not want to add extra worries to my family.

My mother is the most important person to me and seeing her so upset hurts me so much. I told myself to stop being negative about myself and being the elders in the family I should help my parents out rather than be stuck in the rut. I told myself that I cannot go on willowing in self-hate and pity. I should take charge of my life.

So when I enterered Republic Polytechnic, I joined the drogonboat team. I soon developed a strong passion for the sport. Dragonboat has taught me self-discipline, commitment, self-belief and instilled a strong sense of perseverance in me.

That was when everything went upsail!

I met my business partner, Han Ayden. We decided to make fitness a business.I started off as a singapore personal trainer training clients from all walks of life. I must admit that it was nerve wrecking at first. I was afraid that none of my clients would want to listen to a 17 year old. However, it is one of those nerves you will soon get used to with more exposure and confidence.

The most rewarding thing about this industry is when a client says to you ” Diana, you do not only make me look good but feel good about myself. I never knew I could be this confident.” Those remarks from my dear clients would always bring tears to me. My clients are my inspiration to reach out and help people to start loving themselves.

Personally, I went through a transformation too. I began to read up tons about exercise and nutrition. I was a total idiot when I first started and Han Ayden was not very sure I could ever be a decent trainer. Haha!

However I put in extra hours each day and researched on fat loss exercises and nutrition. Slowly but surely, I was able to design a complete exercise program which incorporates supportive nutrition and a good dose of motivation.

At Physique Makeover, my team of personal trainers motivate and coach people with their weight loss issues.

Apart from providing 1 on 1personal training, semi-private training (1 on 3) and conducting Extreme Fat Burn System Crash Couse workshops, Physique Makeover also provides psychological help, supportive nutrition for clients to give them optimal RESULTS in their fat loss.

I Want YOUR Lives To Be Better

With helping people on feeling better about themselves and looking better, I have planned to host a talk show to educate, empower and enrich women especially Asian women in the near future. I would want to instill self-love in women as I feel the world is becoming a tad too superficial.

Children as young as 8 years old are suffering from eating disorders. Imagine your own children or grandchildren suffers from anorexia nervosa or bulimia? It is a painful reality.

I look up to Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneres and I will be the Asian version yet different. I have been doing my homework and watching their shows regularly and polishing my people’s skills. I am not out to Impersonate them but to bring out the message in my own way and style.

Apart from only Asian women, I wish to connect Asian women with the rest of the women of the world. I would love to keep it real. Well, let’s see how it goes. When I broadcast the show, I will inform everyone and do show some support then!

I have started my speaking engagements though.

An example of a speaking engagement I did was for the Singapore Professional And Businesswomen Association on March 19th 2008. The topic was Work-Life Balance.

The biggest speaking engagement I did was when Physique Makeover organised a charity seminar called the Singapore Challenge 2008 which was featured in Channel News Asia Prime Time Morning and 93.8FM radio live.

We hope to organise more of such initiatives as a yearly affair.

I’m still learning new things everyday and there is always room for me to better myself. Therefore I see no excuse for you not to do the same. Start adopting a positive mindset, reflect on your life, decide what you want, put goals down on paper and have an action plan.

If you fail to plan, you will DEFINITELY plan to fail. The same goes if you want to lose weight and feel like a million dollar, you have to have a million dollar plan.
