In the race for weight loss, we have got used to the idea that to lose weight we need to starve and punish our bodies for some time. We justify this act by illusory thinking of fitting into our new sexy swimwear or buying that tight fitting mini dress for a party.
What we forget in the midst of things is that the diets we follow focus more on short term results rather than providing long term benefits. Typically once we come to the end of that particular diet, we are back to square one, gaining more weight that before. Sticking on diets is hard and unpleasant, no doubt!
What should be done instead of embarking on different diets all the time is to focus our mind on creating a healthy lifestyle that will help us lose weight positively and for the long run.
Below we give you three essential ways to accomplish this:
- Get Rid Of Diets
In other words, erase diets completely from your life.
Diets do not work for the long term and following one particular diet for long time also becomes redundant. Though diets help us losing weight by cutting down on calories drastically but for long term gain, it is not feasible.
Even though you manage to cut some kilos, you should be aware that once you stop taking the diet, you will gain back the weight in a matter of weeks. Therefore, what you can do is adjust your existing eating habits and concentrate on consuming low calorie and low fat foods.
Have more of fruits and vegetables but they should be made fresh as processed or tinned foods also increase weight.
- Some form of Exercise
Mild or moderate exercise with help in firming or toning your body. Never jump start with exercises. Its a bad idea to join a gym and then start with strenuous exercises from Day 1.
It will be a miracle if you don’t pull a muscle or injure tendons in some days. What you should instead do is start with exercises on a moderate level. Consult a doctor or physical trainer who can guide you with proper kind of exercises you should do in the beginning.
Gradually, when the body is getting used to exercise, increase the intensity. At the beginners level, low intensity exercises like body weight strength training, light weight training and walking are beneficial.
- Give Yourself A Treat Sometime
Just because you want to improve your health, it is no reason to stop treating yourself to your favorite high calorie foods sometime.
Why? Giving up on them completely will make you feel deprived and you will get off the wagon and have a higher chance of going on a binge and getting back at the old bad habits.
What you should do is reduce the frequency of high calorie food intake one step at a time. Keep room for little treats every now and then in your life. Once a week, eat your favorite treat that contains moderate amount of calories and then resort back to healthy food diet for the remaining week.
Plan your treat days and learn damage control.
Following or incorporating these changes in your life is much more easier than sticking with rigid diets. These small changes, as mentioned above, will work wonders on your lifestyle and yield beneficial results, which will help you remain motivated to follow the lifestyle in the years to come.
