The most challenging aspect of weight loss is hunger control. In a typical weight loss diet, our calorie intake would be reduced thus making us feel more hungry and dissatisfied especially at the second half of the day.
So, what can one do?
A probable solution is low calorie snack food. They taste great and does not affect your weight loss.
Here are some basic varieties:
- Fruit
If you crave for something sweet, fruits will be the safest option to try. Fruits contain natural sugar, fiber and anti – oxidants. If you do not like eating fruits ‘as is’ then perhaps spruce up a bit by, for instance, baking the apples and sprinkling them with nutmeg, cinnamon and a few chopped nuts or making low calorie cottage cheese dip or a smoothie.
Watermelon, peach, strawberry, blueberry, apples, honeydew melon, canteloupe, grapefruit, and raspberries have the lowest calories.
- Raw Vegetables
Eating vegetables have two benefits – they are low in calories and have high fiber content. In addition, vegetables easily replace fattening snacks like potato chips as they provide a satisfying “crunch”. Try having raw peppers or tomatoes.
While cooking, do not overcook the vegetables as all its nutrients are drained out. Vegetabes like carrots, brocolli, radish, and cucumbers have really low calories and should be a permanent part of your diet. As accompaniment, you can make low calorie dips or hommus (ground chickpeas).
- Wraps (Chicken and Vegetable)
To make a quick chicken wrap – cut cooked chicken pieces into cubes, add some raw veggies, wrap is a lettuce leaf and top it with salsa sauce or light salad dressing. You can replace this chicken with others like salmon, turkey, sirloin or round minced beef and shrimp. If you want to stick to veggies, then add more raw vegetables to the wrap.
These wraps have multiple benefits as they are loaded with protein and fiber thus keeping you full. To top it off, they are delicious and very low in calories!
There are no fixed low calorie snack food diet. You can mix and match and come up with your own low calorie foods. Plan, eat low calorie food daily and you’re on your way to successful weight loss.
