Here is a short video clip of me giving a talk titled “Work-Life Balance For Women Of Today” for the Singapore’s Business And Professional Women Association.
Dear Super Moms,
Do you feel that you have no time for yourself? Do you feel that your mind is always cluttered and it affects your sleep at night?
Of course you do!
As a women I truly understand that apart from taking traditional roles of a mother and daughter, we are very much involved in the economic state of our families. With the advancement of technology, women are no longer confined to being in the kitchen.
Like technology, women has advanced to be much more independent and mentally adaptable to take up men-dominated roles – which means them stepping out of their homes and being able to adapt to the challenging worklife.
Women have since progressed from working odd labour jobs to having high-flying careers or even to run businesses. Women are now more proactive in being contributors not only to the economic status of their families but also to the country and society.
So, you have a supportive spouse, sheltered children, that good salaried job. You have it all! But right now I can tell you that you still feel that there is something missing in your life.
Am I right?
How Do You Balance Yourself, Family And Career?
You see, it all lies in time management and what you perceive as “no time”. In the talk I gave to the Singapore Business And Professional Women Association, I mentioned that it is not what you perceive as no time is actually because of the many distractions that you have. Distractions like time can and should be managed.
For example; How many of you could resists not clicking on the notification box to an email when it pops up at the corner of your monitor?
Majority of you would tell me no! Why? Because we are programmed to click on the notification boxes as it is perceived as urgent. We feel the insatiable need to check what is in that email. Unless you can honestly tell me that 50% of your emails helps you to get work done better for you then perhaps (just perhaps) you will have more leeway to click on that box.
So the above is an example of distractions that we have which could save us 1 to 3 hours! That 1 – 3 hours that you could have saved can be invested into having more quality time for yourself. You sould spend 1 hour exercising, 1 hour to have a good massage and relax and perhaps another hour just having some quiet time reading on your own.
Do what you are passionate about! The problem with a lot of career women out there, is that after they start a family, have children and climb the corporate ladder, they tend to give up their HOBBIES!
I have always believed that your well-being is the most important factor which encompases other things in your life. I am talking about your physical, emotional and mental health.
Yes I run a health and fitness company but I am NOT trying to sell any services here.
My point is if you do not make the effort to at least exercise regularly and make good food choices, what happens to your body? You will definitely be more prone to illnesses as your immune system would be atrocious! You will feel “ugly”, “fat”, “worthless”, “flabby” because you simply do not feel good about yourself!
Now if you fall ill, look haggard, feel tired and horrible all the time, would that not affect your productivity level at work? Would that not affect your relationship with your spouse and children because you will tend to be more moody and irritable? Lastly would that not make you suffer more emotional low self-esteem problems?
You see, not making time for yourself does not bring ANY good to anyone.
